Jesus, Friend Of ... (Week 1)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. - Luke 4:18
Imagine a time when women were treated like outsiders... a time when people who were poor were overlooked and ignored... Imagine a culture where those with mental illness had little or no access to the resources needed to live full, productive lives.
Imagine that people who were sick spent all they had looking for a cure and children were treated like second class citizens.
Imagine a society full of sinners.
We don't have to travel in history to recognize these people. These are our people. This is our world.
So how did Jesus treat women, the poor, sick, foreigners, sinners, and children?
He was their friend. So maybe we should be too...
Join us for a seven-week sermon series where we consider the friends of Jesus and how we are accepting the challenge to love those who Jesus loved. We will begin this Sunday, Sept. 17 with "Jesus Friend of the Poor."
See you Sunday.
