According to Andy Williams, the most wonderful time of the year is Christmas, but I think that Fall gives it a run for its money. Nature provides the gifts of breathtaking colors on changing leaves and Thanksgiving provides the opportunity to say thank you.
Fall is so wonderful, in fact, that we often overbook our schedules. Every festival wants to happen during the beautiful 60 degree weather, so if we aren't careful we can spend every moment of this gorgeous season running from one activity to the next.
But I think what is most phenomenal about fall is that the best parts of it are so obviously temporary. The leaves seem to be at their peak on Blue Level Road, so for me, someone who is always thinking about what is next, I immediately am aware that we are just a storm or two away from those beautiful leaves disappearing until next Spring.
Which may be why I really think it is the most wonderful time of the year. It forces me to stop thinking ahead and simply be.
Be present to the golds, oranges, and reds.
Be present to the crisp air and the smell of the heater kicking on for the first time.
Be present to my family and friends as we gather outdoors to savor the season.
So today, as you go through your normal routine or a hectic schedule, may you be present to the gift of this beautiful season and to the one who created it all.
